Hands-on kitchen leader role managing staff services, menus, food safety, costs, and a high-performing team in a full-time Te Puke position.
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced
Kitchen Manager to lead their onsite canteen and staff services operation. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on food quality, safety, cost control, and people management in a high-volume environment.
The Role You will oversee the daily operation of the staff kitchen and catering services, ensuring consistent food quality, strong health and safety compliance, and efficient management of staff, costs, and resources. The role requires autonomy, sound judgement, and the ability to perform under pressure, particularly during peak seasonal periods.
Key Responsibilities - Plan and develop menus and recipes, considering dietary needs, cost, and wastage
- Prepare and cook daily meals while maintaining food safety and hygiene standards
- Coordinate catering requests and assist with site shouts
- Lead the Staff Services team, including rosters, staffing levels, and productivity
- Manage food costs, purchasing, stock control, and kitchen P&L
- Recruit kitchen staff with support from the Site HR team
- Approve timesheets, manage attendance, and address payroll queries
- Ensure effective delegation and efficient use of labour
Health & Safety - Maintain and implement the Food Control Plan (FCP)
- Ensure compliance with food safety and health and safety standards
- Train staff on kitchen safety, hazards, and emergency procedures
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen environment
About You - Proven experience in a kitchen leadership or management role
- Strong organisational, communication, and people skills
- Able to make decisions under pressure and meet deadlines
- Physically fit and flexible to work extended hours or weekends as required
